Beaver Street Initiative Approved for State’s Neighborhood Assistance Program Support
Beaver Street, Lancaster, PA
The City of Lancaster and Lancaster City Alliance are coordinating a holistic multi-year approach to neighborhood revitalization rooted in resident engagement in partnership with the South Side Neighbors, focused on Beaver Street, the residential spine of the Building On Strength-defined S. Prince/S. Queen commercial hub. This efforts was recently approved by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for support from the Department of Community & Economic Development’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP). The NAP provides a 75% tax credit to local companies as an incentive to maximize their contributions in support of this initiative. Five local companies have committed a total of $95,000 in year one, including The High Companies, Fulton Bank, PNC, S&T Bank, and Flyway Excavating. In addition to the funding support from these companies, the City and partners will be leveraging other funding to complete lead hazard reduction, critical home repairs, façade improvements for homes and businesses, resident-led litter cleanups, block parties, and other activities. Beaver Street is a strategic area of focus as it has not seen the same level of attention as nearby SoWe and Southeast neighborhood revitalization efforts to date.
